A conjunction is a word that connects words, phrases, or clauses together in a sentence.

They can indicate relationships like addition, contrast, or reason between the connected elements.

Types of Conjunctions:

Coordinating Conjunctions:

These connect elements of equal grammatical rank, such as words, phrases, or independent clauses. Examples include “and,” “but,” and “or”.

 

Subordinating Conjunctions:

These introduce a dependent clause and show the relationship between the dependent clause and the main clause. Examples include “because,” “if,” “although,” “since,” “while”, whereas

Correlative Conjunctions:

These come in pairs and connect elements of equal grammatical rank. Examples include “either…or,” “neither…nor,” and “not only…but also”.
